Chart Hills Golf Club and London Golf Club have unveiled a new stay and play golf package for 2025, designed to give golfers the opportunity to experience the very best inland golf that the Southeast of England has to offer.

Available to book from May 1st, The Kent Golf Experience package includes 18 holes of first-class golf on both the Sir Nick Faldo designed course at Chart Hills and the International Jack Nicklaus Course at London Golf Club, in addition to an overnight stay at The Barn, the new luxury accommodation on site at Chart Hills, all for £299 per golfer.

This exciting new offering will allow golfers to experience two famous English courses as part of one unique package. Chart Hills Golf Club, former European Tour Q-School venue, has recently undergone a total property renovation, followed by the installation of new tee boxes on every hole.

The International Course at the London Golf Club has staged many top class tournaments

The result is a picturesque yet challenging layout that is presented in immaculate championship condition.

Meanwhile, London Golf Club has been a fixture of British professional golf since it opened in the mid-1990s, and the International Course is widely revered for its challenging layout, impressive conditioning, and spectacular water features.

VENUE TIE UP

Anthony Tarchetti, General Manager of Chart Hills Golf Club, said: “We’re delighted to be teaming up with London Golf Club to offer golfers the chance to experience our fantastic venues.

The new addition of The Barn at Chart Hills completes the premium stay and play experience for our visitors, and we can’t wait to welcome more golfers from around the country and further afield to our fairways.”

The par-72 course at Chart Hills features dramatically undulating fairways, one of the longest bunkers in European golf (The Anaconda), numerous water features including an island green par-3, and complex greens that present a challenge.

Now boasting tees ranging from 5500 yards through to 7100, the course is ready to welcome all levels of golfer to try their hand on the first Sir Nick Faldo designed course in Europe. Sir Nick Faldo himself said that he would “never tire of playing Chart Hills.”

The Barn is just a minutes walk from the first tee at Chart Hills

WHAT THE BREAK OFFERS

The new Kent Golf Experience package will also include an overnight bed-and-breakfast stay at The Barn, the new accommodation on site at Chart Hills with four luxury suites, which was launched in 2024 allowing visiting golfers to stay on the property for the first time.

Package prices will start from £299 per adult, and golfers should contact fayeb@charthills.co.uk to submit their booking enquiry.

High Post Golf Club has announced, Debbie Rock as Club Captain for 2025—the first woman in the club’s 103-year history.

Debbie’s appointment marks another important milestone in High Post’s ongoing journey towards inclusivity, progress, and recognition of female leadership in golf.

Debbie’s connection to High Post began nearly a decade ago when she joined the inaugural WiGs (Women into Golf) Programme, an inspiring initiative led by Kate Gregory and the High Post Pro Team.

CAPTAINS PLANS

Designed to introduce more women to the game, the programme set Debbie on a path she never anticipated.

Since then, she has gone on to represent the club across a wide range of teams, including the Woods, Handicap, Mixed, Tripartite, and Scratch B and has won three Honours Board competitions.

Debbie has a military background, being commissioned into the WRAC (Women’s Royal Army Corps) from Sandhurst, as part of only the second group of women to attend the prestigious military academy.

Following her service, she continued to move around as an “Army wife” before settling in Salisbury. Debbie also brings extensive experience in governance and education, having spent 25 years training local school governors across Salisbury and Wiltshire, and supporting governing bodies through challenging circumstances.

WHAT DEBBIE SAID

“It is an absolute honour and a true privilege to be elected as Club Captain of High Post Golf Club for 2025. I am incredibly proud to take on this role.

Being part of High Post is about more than just golf — it’s about friendship, shared values, and a strong sense of community rooted in tradition and a vision for the future.

Attending that very first WiGs session set me on a path I could never have imagined. To now serve not only as Ladies Captain but also as the first elected female Club Captain in the club’s history is truly humbling.

This moment reflects what High Post stands for — inclusion, opportunity, and a willingness to evolve while still honouring the foundations on which our club was built.”

An inspirational golfer who lost both legs and all but two of his fingers after contracting bacterial meningitis at a golf tournament has been gifted a membership by London Golf Club to help him on his golf journey.

Issa Nlareb, 34, was first introduced to golf at the age of 11 when, following the death of his mother, he started work as a ball boy at a local club to earn money in his home country of Cameroon. After a few years, he progressed to caddying and eventually started playing the game himself.

His talent was obvious from the start, and at one point he was the top-rated player in Africa. A tournament in Egypt in 2018, however, changed the trajectory of his life forever.

During tournament week he contracted bacterial meningitis, losing both legs, all fingers on his left hand and all but two of the fingers on his right hand.

But after a couple of years, it became clear that he missed golf too much to give it up – and to his delight, Nlareb realised that he could still hit a golf ball better than most. Thus began the slow climb up the World Ranking for Golfers with a Disability (WR4GD).

In August, the Cameroonian was one of 30 golfers from six nations who competed on London Golf Club’s International Course as EDGA’s inaugural London Golf Club G4D Shield took place.

Following a superb four-under opening round of 68, Nlareb’s second round 78 in difficult conditions was enough to see him finish one shot clear of the chasing pack.

Issa, pictured with EDGA President Tony Bennett (left) and Ben Stimson, director of golf at London Golf Club, won the G4D event held at the Kent venue earlier this year

The world number 12 recently returned to the prestigious Kent venue, and upon arrival was gifted a membership to the club to enable him to practise and train when in the UK.

Ben Stimson, director of golf at London Golf Club, said: “Issa Nlareb is an incredibly inspirational individual – his story of resilience can teach us all how to react in life to setbacks.

“His love for the game of golf is infectious, and we are delighted to be able to offer our world-class services to support him during his journey over the coming years.”

Nlareb said: “I love to play golf here. The practice facilities are in such great condition. The courses are very challenging, and everyone has been extremely welcoming. I’m looking forward to using London Golf Club as a training base when in England and would like to thank the club for this kind gesture.”

Nlareb will defend his title at London Golf Club in 2025 when the London Golf Club G4D Shield returns.

Police have launched a hate crime investigation after antisemitic messages were raked into bunkers at Hendon Golf Club shortly before the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

The North London club notified the Metropolitan Police after it was the victim of a race-related attack on October 11.

Large antisemitic messages were written in several bunkers at the club. In videos and images posted on social media, antisemitic words and symbols can be seen drawn in the sand.

In a statement, the Community Security Trust, a charity that works to protect British Jews from antisemitism, said: “For this to occur in the heart of the Jewish community shortly before the onset of Yom Kippur is utterly disgraceful.

“We are in regular contact with the police and have urged them to thoroughly investigate this hate crime, and we ask anyone with any information about it to contact CST and the police.”

Hearing about the incident, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan commented: “I’m sickened by the rise in antisemitism in our city. Hate crime is a criminal offence and has no place in London. I’ll continue to work with the police and community representatives to tackle antisemitism and support those affected by such abhorrent abuse.”

Police have urged anyone with information to call 101 or contact the @MetCC X account, quoting CAD1690/11Oct. Anonymous calls can also be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Playing conditions on Copthorne Golf Club’s parkland golf course are currently among the best ever experienced at the 132-year-old year old club following a major investment in new machinery and new green-keeping practices.

After taking on the services of consultant agronomist Greg Evans at the end of last summer, course manager Mike Gould and his team, working in collaboration with Evans, have implemented a course management plan that has succeeded in bringing about marked improvements to the playing surfaces at the West Sussex venue.

Other key figures involved in project included Copthorne General Manager Paul Tidey and Greens Director Nigel Guthrie, both of whom were integral to the strategic decisions and implementation of the course plan.

OTHER INVESTMENTS

Consistent light sand dressings, backed up with heavier work, including hollow coring, deep aeration and a regular fertiliser spraying programme, have proved transformational to the quality of the greens, which have been consistently playing at 9 and 10 on the stimpmeter over the summer.

Copthorne has also made significant investments in its water management infrastructure, installing a borehole and a new holding tank to increase water storage capacity.

Plans are also underway to upgrade the greens irrigation system across the course. In line with the
club’s commitment to preserving and enhancing its historical heathland characteristics, the club is currently reviewing the design and playability of its 5th hole.

Architect Alan Walker has been engaged to appraise and redesign the hole, including a new tee complex and a rebuilt green, as this is currently unplayable at times, with limited pin positions.

A key objective for the 6,654-yard course is the restoration of its traditional heathland features which have gradually diminished due to tree encroachment. The club is committed to bringing back these distinctive characteristics, which are integral to its heritage and the unique golfing experience it offers.

The rules regarding general winter play, including when preferred lies can be applied, have been updated by England Golf.

The preferred lies rule, which allows players to take free relief in the fairway, has historically only been in place during the winter months – generally October 1 to April 30 – but now it can be used at any time during the season.

Clubs who had to deal with inclement conditions outside of that seven-month period previously had to ask their county unions for permission to bring in the Local Rule on a temporary basis. Now that barrier has been removed and, if circumstances require, England Golf say clubs can use it throughout the year.

Most importantly, golfers will still be able to post acceptable scores under the World Handicap System when preferred lies are active.

What was formerly known as the Winter Checklist has now been replaced by the Adverse/Extreme Weather Reference Guide, which is being introduced to help clubs not just through winter, but all year round.

A statement from England Golf said: “Exception MLR E-3 Preferred Lies no longer has a defined period for use, and a club may, if conditions require it, utilise this Model Local Rule throughout the year.

“Winter Rules is not a term stated within the Rules of Handicapping. Therefore, the guidance has been adapted to be focused on periods of extreme or adverse weather.

“Clubs must use the Model Local Rule appropriately and on areas of the course where it is required. They must also be removed as soon practicably possible.”

Changes have also been made to guidance on other areas of course management due to adverse weather conditions, including the use of temporary greens, fairway mats, water-filled bunkers and closed holes.

Caddington Golf Club in Bedfordshire is to close next week after it was sold to a private developer.

The final rounds at the Luton-based club are to be played on October 11, after which all club operations will shut down.

Members were informed of the sale in a letter sent out by club owners McGee Construction on September 13, which set out the timetable for closure following the club’s purchase by a company called Storm Golf.

In a statement, club manager Ryan McGee said: “While I appreciate this is disappointing news for our members, I can confirm that Caddington Golf Club recently reached an agreement to sell the golf course to Storm Golf. As a result, the golf club will close effective from October 12, 2024.”

Members who pre-paid their annual membership are being refunded the unused portion, while those who paid their fees monthly had their instalments stopped at the end of September, although all members will be allowed free access to the course from October 1-11.

Storm Golf has arranged a 10% discount for Caddington members to join nearby Chalgrave Manor Golf Club in Toddington, just north of Luton, but the reduced fee only applies to the first 100 members who apply.

Caddington Golf Club was founded in 1985, and started out as a 9-hole course before expanding to a 27-hole facility in 1995 with an 18-hole, 6,240-yard par-71 course and a 9-hole academy course. It was popular with employeess at the nearby Vauxhall Motors plant and the general public and was bought by McGee Construction Group in 2008.

It is unclear what Storm Golf’s intentions are for the Caddington site, as it has no track record of buying or operating golf clubs. The company has not issued a statement regarding its future plans.

John and Ryan McGee bought Caddington in 2008 and invested significant sums in developing the club
