Mizuno have launched the latest addition to its celebrated Mizuno Pro line-up, the Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi. A tour-proven utility long iron, the Fli-Hi is designed to deliver faster ball speeds, higher launch, and refined workability, all wrapped in a compact, tour-preferred profile.

At the core of the new Fli-Hi is Mizuno’s most advanced face construction to date. The Contoured Ellipse CORTECH design expands the effective hitting area by 37%, ensuring faster ball speeds and more consistent performance across the face.

A multi-thickness face, optimised through detailed CAE analysis (Computer-Aided Engineering), further enhances peak COR to provide explosive distance without sacrificing control.

To improve launch conditions, Mizuno has strategically positioned 26 grams of tungsten low and deep within the head. This precise weighting geometry not only raises the peak trajectory but also ensures added stability and forgiveness.

Combined with Mizuno’s innovative L-Face geometry, a breakthrough welding technique that increases sole flex, the result is a thinner topline that retains strength while generating additional speed at impact.

Mizuno Fli-Hi

As with every club in the Mizuno Pro family, feel remains paramount. The Fli-Hi benefits from Mizuno’s Harmonic Impact Technology, with carefully engineered internal ribs that fine-tune vibration frequencies to deliver a solid, tour-validated impact sensation.

The acoustic profile has been matched to Mizuno’s previous Fli-Hi models, ensuring continuity of feel while offering subtle refinements demanded by tour players.

The Fli-Hi also marks a construction milestone as the first Mizuno iron to utilise Nickel Chromoly 4335+ Hollow Body technology.

The ultra-high-strength, heat-treated face delivers explosive ball speeds, while the softer untreated body provides adaptability in loft and lie adjustments, ensuring tour fitters can dial in performance precisely to player preference.

Visually, the Fli-Hi features a new Gun Metal Satin finish that not only looks the part but also reduces glare at address, framing the ball cleanly to create the appearance of a more compact, confidence-inspiring head.

The Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi is the ultimate bridge between precision long irons and high-performance hybrids, crafted for players who demand distance and forgiveness without sacrificing feel, control, or aesthetics.

With its tour-proven shaping and pioneering engineering, the newest Fli-Hi promises to be yet another fan favourite.

Marco Penge capitalised on Rasmus Højgaard’s dramatic mid-round stumble to capture his second DP World Tour title at the Danish Golf Championship.

Højgaard appeared on course for a second victory in three years when he surged four shots clear by the sixth hole. But a bogey at the seventh followed by a double at the ninth erased his advantage and allowed Penge, who had picked up birdies at the third and eighth, to draw level.

The Englishman pulled ahead when Højgaard dropped another shot at the 10th and then stretched his lead to two with a superb birdie at the 13th. Although Penge wavered with his only bogey of the day on the 16th, he immediately bounced back with a birdie on the 17th to restore his cushion at 15 under par.

“I’ve been playing so well this year,” said Penge. “Coming back from time off and winning so soon after, to achieve what I have since has been amazing. My goal was not to get complacent, and my team and family have kept me striving for more. And credit to Rasmus — to hit that shot into the last for eagle and force me to win it was unbelievable.”

Ben Schmidt of Rotherham secured solo third at 12 under after closing with a 68.

Penge’s victory carried extra rewards: topping the Closing Swing rankings for a $200,000 (£148,000) bonus and entry to the season’s final nine events. He also pocketed $10,000 (£7,400) for his opening-round 64, the lowest score of the week.

Højgaard still threatened late, producing a stunning eagle at the par-five 18th to tie momentarily. But Penge held his nerve, rolling in a clutch birdie putt to seal victory at Furesø Golf Klub.

Mizuno have announced the release of new finish options across two core models in its current lineup: the JPX 925 Hot Metal irons and Mizuno Pro T-3 wedges.

These latest additions reflect Mizuno’s ongoing focus on player preferences, craftsmanship, and tailored performance.

Each new finish maintains the underlying design philosophy and engineering integrity of the original model, while offering golfers refined aesthetic options to suit individual preferences and playing environments.

JPX 925 Hot Metal: Black Ion, Revolutionary Iron

The JPX 925 Hot Metal irons, recognised for their blend of distance, control and fitting versatility, are now available in a standout Black Ion finish.

Built around a Nickel Chromoly chassis with strategically placed tungsten weighting in the 4–7 irons, the Hot Metal design continues to provide a high-launch, high-speed platform with consistency across the face.

The addition of the Black Ion finish offers a fresh visual identity while maintaining the same trusted performance, reducing glare, and aligning the iron’s look with its modern, technology-led profile.

Mizuno Pro T-3: Stability Reimagined in Black

The Pro T-3 wedge, recognised for its blend of forgiveness and feel, returns in a commanding Black Ion finish.

Its shallow cavity back, combined with a longer head shape, offers increased stability on off-centre strikes, perfect for golfers seeking consistency without sacrificing finesse.

The forging process, groove structure (Quad Cut + Hydroflow Micro Grooves), and copper underlay remain unchanged, ensuring the T-3 continues to deliver reliable spin and control in all conditions.

Three grind options (S, M, and C) support various short game needs, and the darker finish offers a cleaner visual at setup, particularly in bright light or firm turf conditions.

T3 with Black Face

A third new colourway, the Mizuno Pro T-1 in Denim Copper, will be available exclusively in the US, while Europe will see the JPX 925 Hot Metal in Black Ion and the Mizuno Pro T-3 in Black Ion.

These new finishes are intended to provide players with greater visual choice while preserving the integrity and performance characteristics that define each model, reinforcing Mizuno’s commitment to incremental innovation, player-centric design, and a refined balance of feel, feedback, and form.

Bearwood Lakes Golf Club saw the opening of Mizuno’s brand-new DP World Tour Truck—a purpose-built, state-of-the-art mobile facility that marks a bold step forward in the brand’s commitment to supporting its tour staff and boosting its presence on the professional golf circuit.

Mizuno’s own recent DP World tour winner Marco Penge was on hand to open the new tour truck at the Berkshire venue, where he also treated guests to a golf clinic.

NEW TRUCK

Replacing the previous model after 15 years of service, the new vehicle has been completely reimagined to meet the evolving needs of today’s game—delivering more space, more functionality, and a more immersive brand experience.

Tour Truck official opening

The introduction of the new Tour Truck represents a pivotal step in Mizuno’s broader growth strategy, both in the immediate and long-term future.

While its primary role is to deliver best-in-class support to tour staff, the vehicle will also serve as a powerful tool for engaging retail partners.

Building on the recent expansion of Mizuno’s custom fitting network—bolstered by the addition of dedicated Golf Technical Representatives (GTRs)—the truck will take centre stage at an increased number of ‘Tour Experience Days’, giving retailers the opportunity to offer their customers a true tour-level custom fitting service.

Though purpose-built for the DP World Tour, the truck’s use will extend well beyond. It will play a key role at R&A events, LET tournaments, and various feeder tours—underpinning Mizuno’s commitment to emerging talent through its “Young Lions” strategy.

It will also have a presence at selected events across EMEA in other sporting disciplines, acting as a versatile brand ambassador for categories such as running and beyond—reinforcing that this is not just a golf investment, but a broader brand initiative.

OLD TRUCK FUTURE

Although the previous truck is being retired from the road, it will still play a part in Mizuno’s development.

It will take on a new role as a permanent fixture at Mizuno’s EMEA Tour base at Bearwood Lakes Golf Club.

Echoing the concept behind “The Foundry” in the US, the site will offer a premium Mizuno experience, becoming a hub for fitting, service, and brand interaction.

It will also enable the tour team to service players while the lead truck is in transit, ensuring continuous support regardless of location.

Measuring 17.5 metres in length and expanding to nearly 5 metres in width when deployed, the truck offers a total of three dedicated zones, each tailored to a specific operational purpose. The heart of the operation lies in the 23-square-metre

workshop—a significantly enlarged space designed to allow multiple club technicians to work simultaneously without obstruction.

The Workshop

Every Mizuno staff player’s preferred shafts, grips and heads are now carried onboard, ensuring that equipment can be adjusted, rebuilt, or customised on-site with speed and precision. A new laser engraving machine brings wedge personalisation and bespoke putter sight-lines directly into the truck, providing services that were previously only possible off-site.

Alongside the workshop is the 13.5-square-metre player service area, a welcoming and highly functional space where tour staff can collect their weekly allocation of hats, gloves, balls, towels and other essentials from dedicated pigeonholes.

LIFE ON TOUR

The area is equipped with two fridges, a microwave grill, coffee machine, large sofa and a high-top desk with multiple workstations—making it as comfortable as it is practical during the high demands of tournament weeks.

At the front of the vehicle, Mizuno has introduced a 14.8-square-metre office and showroom designed with complete flexibility in mind.

Outfitted with modular furniture and a slat wall system throughout, the space can be rapidly reconfigured to support operational meetings, product displays, or brand showcases.

While its primary function is to serve the needs of Mizuno’s golf division, the area also provides potential for use during retail activations, offering a premium, on-brand environment wherever it’s parked.

Crowning the new truck is a roof terrace—a distinctive feature that offers guests a unique perspective on the week’s action.

Overlooking practice ranges, event villages or activation zones, the terrace transforms the truck into a premium hospitality space, bringing partners and visitors closer to the game in a way that few other tour vehicles can offer.

Beyond its layout and design, the new truck is fitted with modern technological upgrades to support the daily demands of tour life.

High-speed internet via Starlink ensures seamless connectivity, while a Sonos sound system allows different music to be played across three independent zones. Full air conditioning throughout ensures that the interior remains comfortable and efficient in all weather conditions.

This latest investment signals a new chapter for Mizuno’s DP World Tour operations.

Designed to deliver an exceptional level of service to its staff players and the team of expert fitters and technicians, the new truck also provides a flexible and powerful platform for brand engagement at the biggest events in European golf.

True to Mizuno’s heritage, the project reflects the brand’s deep-rooted focus on craftsmanship and innovation—values that continue to drive its growth.

Custom fitting remains a core pillar of Mizuno Golf’s business, and this latest development further cements the brand’s commitment to that ethos.

With its expanded capabilities and vastly upgraded on-site experience, the Mizuno Tour Truck is set to become a standout presence wherever it goes.

Marco Penge secured his maiden DP World Tour title with a brilliant final-round 67 to win the 2025 Hainan Classic by three shots.

Starting the day tied for the lead with home favourite Bowen Xiao, the Englishman briefly trailed a surging Sean Crocker at the turn.

However, a sensational run of three consecutive birdies at the 12th, 13th, and 14th holes saw Penge pull clear of the field and wrap up an emotional victory at Mission Hills Resort Haikou.

The 2023 HotelPlanner Tour Number One finished the tournament at 17 under par, carding seven birdies and two bogeys on Sunday.

Crocker and Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan shared second place at 14 under, while Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen finished another shot back.

Penge, who secured his full DP World Tour playing rights with a clutch performance at the Genesis Championship last October, was overcome with emotion after his breakthrough win.

THANKING NETWORK

“This obviously means the world to me,” he said. “It’s something I’ve always dreamt of — winning on the biggest stage. After my time off over the winter, it was the thing I wanted to prove to myself and to everyone, to show what a player I am.”

He was quick to pay tribute to his support network, adding: “My caddie has been my rock through it all, and I wouldn’t be where I am without my wife and my whole team. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

Reflecting on the personal side of his journey, Penge shared: “We spend so much time away from home. All of us lads are doing this for our wives, our families, our kids.

To be able to say I’ve won on the DP World Tour when my son is older and can see that – to be a hero to him – that’s everything.

Before I teed off, I watched some videos of him laughing and smiling, and it gave me that inner strength I needed today.”

The victory capped off an incredible stretch for Penge, who also booked his place in next month’s US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club by finishing third in the Asian Swing standings.

Japan’s Keita Nakajima topped the rankings, with Eugenio Chacarra second and Penge third — all three securing their spots in the second major of the year.

Mizuno have announced the launch of the JPX 925 Forged irons, accompanied by the striking JPX 925 Forged Black.

These new additions seamlessly blend cutting-edge technology with the unmistakable Mizuno feel, delivering precision and versatile performance for the modern golfer.

At the heart of the JPX 925 Forged series is the CORTECH Design with its revolutionary Contour Ellipse Face.

This advanced multi-thickness face profile optimises ball speed across the entire surface, ensuring explosive performance and forgiveness even on off-centre strikes.

Combining both the forgiveness of the Hot Metal series with the refined feel of their single-piece forged irons, the design offers unparalleled versatility.

The innovation behind the Contour Ellipse Face required the development of entirely new construction methods, showcasing our commitment to pushing the boundaries of engineering excellence.

True to our reputation for forging excellence, we employ our Grain Flow Forged HD process at our Hiroshima facility.

The long irons (4-7) in the JPX 925 Forged series are crafted from Chromoly 4120, a material known for its exceptional strength and malleability, enabling higher ball speeds and easier adjustability.

In contrast, the shorter irons (8-GW) are forged from 1025E Pure Select Mild Carbon Steel, a material that delivers superior control, precision, and the legendary buttery feel Mizuno players expect.

Together, these materials ensure a flawless transition through the set, offering the perfect balance of speed, precision, and feedback.

Adding to their versatility is our innovative Triple Cut Sole design, meticulously engineered for enhanced turf interaction across all lies and conditions.

The leading edge is gently bevelled to ensure a clean entry into the turf, while the hard-cut trailing edge facilitates a smooth exit for uninterrupted ball contact.

This design, paired with optimised weighting, gives players remarkable control and confidence, even in the most challenging playing environments.

WHEN WILL THEY BE AVAILABLE

Aesthetics play a vital role in the JPX 925 Forged series, which debuts with two stunning finish options.

The Traditional Satin Chrome provides a timeless, classic look that will appeal to traditionalists, while the Forged Black offers a bold, contemporary option with reduced glare, exuding modern sophistication.

The JPX 925 Forged series is a testament to our relentless pursuit of innovation and perfection.

Designed for golfers seeking speed, precision, and feel, these irons redefine expectations in the forged category.

The JPX 925 Forged and JPX 925 Forged Black will be available at authorised retailers and online from Monday, 3rd February 2025.

MARCO PENGE: “I’M LITERALLY LIVING MY DREAM” https://golfnews.co.uk/golf-interviews/marco-penge-im-literally-living-my-dream/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 09:47:15 +0000 https://golfnews.co.uk/?p=25717 DP World Tour rookie Marco Penge shares his golfing journey to date and reveals how he is coping with the transition to Europe’s top tier tour

The post MARCO PENGE: “I’M LITERALLY LIVING MY DREAM” appeared first on Golf News.

]]>
Having topped the Challenge Tour rankings in 2023, and earned promotion to the DP World Tour, 26-year-old tour professional MARCO PENGE has firmly established himself on the world stage, chalking up three top-20s in his maiden season, with the promise of much more to come. Here Marco shares his golfing journey to date, how he is coping with the transition to Europe’s top tier tour and what he has learned about his game

What’s the main difference you’ve seen between the Challenge Tour and the DP World Tour?

The standard on both tours is incredible, and really very similar, with great talents on both tours, but there is certainly a greater strength in depth on the DP World Tour. I’ve also noticed that there are a lot more players in the gym – so fitness levels are just that bit higher.

With you currently averaging 330 yards off the tee, against a tour average of 305 yards, I wouldn’t be making a wild guess to suggest that driving is one of the main strengths of your game?

Absolutely – my length off the tee is a huge advantage, and to be fair I’m pretty accurate with it too. I’m not sure that is always reflected in the driving accuracy stats though, as I’m normally hitting into narrow pinch points and over corners that are out of range for many other players. I’ve been working hard in the gym for a long time now which helps with my strength and swing speed.

If length is your superpower, what are the relative weaknesses in your game?

I’d say my approach play is not as good as it needs to be. It’s really down to some technical work I need to do. If I lack any clarity in terms of what I am doing, or what I should feel, it ultimately undermines my belief and becomes a grind. There’s no quick fix to it, but I am working hard with my coach on improving this part of my game.

Marco in action at this year’s Volvo China Open where he bagged a top-20 finish (Photo by Lintao Zhang/Getty Images)

What performance stats do you pay most attention to?

‘Proximity to hole’ is a big one for me – how many times I hit it inside 15 feet with my approach shots and how destructive my bad one is. My last round at the Volvo China Open – where I shot a bogey-free 66 – was about the easiest six under I‘ve ever had because I hit it inside 15 feet on almost every hole.

You’ve said that it can often take three or four holes for you to settle into a round. How are learning to deal with this and perhaps make better starts to your rounds?

This being my first year on the DP World Tour there have definitely been more things to deal with, as it’s all new and a bit of a learning curve. You can easily slip into the mindset of trying to avoid mistakes – trying to make a few pars to ease into the round – but it’s not a great mentality to have out here. The standard is so high that you really need to fly out the blocks with the aim of shooting as low as you can from the off. I’m an instinctive player too and so feeling good on the range really helps the start of the round as I know I can trust my feels.

On your way to winning the Challenge Tour Grand Final last year, you hit your second shot out of bounds on the first hole in the final round. What went through your mind at that point?

The opening hole at Alcanada is a par-five and I took the second shot on, which I still feel was the right choice. I deal with these moments pretty well and try to keep my emotions in check. Looking back, I probably just said to myself ‘that was crap!’ and moved on. I’ve had so many experiences in the past where I’ve stayed patient, playing great and not making putts, but hung in there only to be rewarded at the end of the round. I’ve really learned from these moments, and they have helped me keep the faith and trust in my game.

If you look at my whole season last year it was a similar story, I finished fourth in the Czech Open and then followed that with seven missed cuts in a row and was well down the rankings. I could sense there was some anxiety within my team about the how the year would end, but I knew all along it would be fine and that I would have better weeks at some point. Fortunately, I finished the year strongly, won a couple of times, and topped the rankings. It was unbelievable, but it’s my mentality to be positive. You’ve got to be patient and stay in control of your emotions. Ultimately, I believe in my ability and will always back myself to turn things around.

It must be a real asset to be able to keep your cool when things aren’t going your way.

I guess so. Even in those tough moments I remind myself that I am literally living my dream, and I am really grateful to be doing what I’m doing, so that helps keep me grounded and from going off the rails.

Marco secured his card on the DP World Tour after winning the order of merit on the Challenge Tour in 2023

Do you think you have what it takes to win on the DP World Tour?

I’d like to think so. Certain courses will play into my strengths with my length off the tee, and I can definitely win around those kind of tracks. For example, I played in India this year on a really tight course and only hit one driver a round, so I was playing from the same places as the rest of the field. A good week for me on a course like that might be a top 25, although I ended up 37th. But at the venue for this year’s South African Open, Blair Atholl in Johannesburg, which was over 7,800 yards, it was course where long driving was a definite advantage and I finished 12th. It’s just a case of playing well in those weeks.

I know that there will always be three or four weeks a year where I will be contention – that’s just the type of player I am. My game, when it’s good, is awesome, and I know it will show up at some point in the season. Couple this with getting my approach play where I want it to be more consistently, and I know that I put myself in contention to win.

What’s been your favourite course/event on Tour this season?

My favourite course so far has been Leopard Creek in South Africa, while my favourite tournament was the Dubai Desert Classic.

Who do like to hang out with on tour?

I play most of my practice rounds with Andy Sullivan, Matt Baldwin and Paul Waring. They have really taken me under their wing and are a great support to me – especially given that it is my first year on the DP World Tour.

Who was your golfing idol when you were growing up and who do you admire of the current generation of tour players?

It was definitely Tiger Woods when I was growing up, but of the current generation I admire Brooks Koepka for his strong mentality and unflappable demeanour.

Who have you played with this year that has really impressed you?

A South African guy called Louis De Jager has really stood out to me so far. He’s been around for a while, but I was really impressed with the way he managed his game.

Finally, what advice would you offer to club golfers out there?

Enjoy your golf, stay patient and have fun – simple as that! Ultimately, golf is just a small piece of your life. We all need to remember to enjoy our golf, whatever level you play at. My wife actually messaged me before my last round in China and said, ‘Go have fun – remember you’re living your dreams!’ It’s such an important message. My time at on the DP World Tour might last a year or 10 years, who knows, but I always remember the journey I’ve had to get here and remind myself to enjoy every moment.

Mizuno has unveiled a new range of golf balls aimed at elite-level golfers that have undergone an exhaustive three-year testing and development programme.

The brand’s latest generation of RB Tour and RB Tour X balls, which go on sale early next year, are the result of extensive R&D work that has seen 99 prototypes produced before the final products were settled upon that provides what David Llewellyn, Mizuno’s Director of R&D, describes as ‘the perfect harmony of dimple configuration, construction, compression and cover’.
He added: “The ultimate difference with the new RB Tour has been the time spent working on the prototypes. Three years of player, robot and greenside feedback across every possible performance attribute. Via parallel R&D teams – our original ball group in Japan, backed up by a new unit in Atlanta, USA.”

Both the RB Tour (left) and RB Tour X (right) offer low driver spin, but the RB Tour spins less than the Tour X and is aimed at elite players with faster swing speeds

One of the standout features of the new RB Tour range is the unique AXIAFLOW dimple. On full shots, the new dimple generates a higher driver flight and flatter wedge flight, compared to other tour-level balls. Creating a more defined visual look, the new 272 dimple pattern provides a larger and more precise outline on the golf ball, a visual effect that our testers preferred.

A traditionally soft feel is always expected from Mizuno, something the RB Tour and RB Tour X deliver in spades. Also, responding to feedback from many Mizuno fans and elite level golfers, ensuring improved durability of the RB Tour cover was a central theme behind the R&D of the new RB Tour design. After comprehensive testing, along with feedback from players, the new RB Tour range promises to deliver repeatable consistency and durability throughout the round.

Providing a golf ball that excels for both tour level golfers and the average amateur has been a focus for Mizuno through their development process. The RB Tour X is engineered for low driver spin, while the RB Tour provides an even lower spin rate, designed for a new generation of players with faster clubhead speeds.

“We purposefully slanted the performance of both RB Tour models towards our younger elite players. Both models launch high off the driver – one with low spin, the other lower. Yet both balls demonstrated a flatter flight from full wedge shots. A remarkable accomplishment from the aerodynamics team in Japan.” says Chris Voshall – Director of Product, Mizuno USA.

Both RB Tour models are priced at £50 per dozen and will be available at retail early in 2023.

Mizuno’s apparel range for autumn/winter combines refined, soft-touch materials with the brand’s proven core technologies to help golfers play through the winter in comfort and style.

Mizuno apparel boasts a wide range of fabric technologies that are designed to help golfers carry on playing in winter conditions. To combat wet weather, Nexlite Flex offers complete waterproofness and incredible flexibility, while warmth is delivered by the company’s Breath Thermo Technology, a fabric that captures and generates heat from escaping body vapour.

Thermal Plus is a material technology which regulates the dissipation of body heat, while dynamic movement comes through Biogear, which reduces muscle and joint fatigue due to stretch, pressure and shape. Move Tech is an anatomically-patterned, four-way-stretch fabric that enables golfers to swing with complete freedom of movement.
