Bury St Edmunds’ Tyler Weaver has qualified for the US Open at Oakmont, after shooting -11 across 36 holes at Piedmont Driving Club, Atlanta.<\/p>\n

In the 84-player field, Weaver shot rounds of -5 and -6 on Monday to finish tied-3rd to qualify for the third major men’s golf event of the season, which will be live on Sky Sports from 12-15 June.<\/p>\n

TYLER BEATS MAJOR WINNERS<\/strong><\/p>\n

In doing so, the 22-year-old pipped the likes of 2023 Ryder Cup Captain and multiple major winner Zach Johnson, as well as another major winner in Jason Dufner, and senior major champion KJ Choi.<\/p>\n

There were more star names missing out on qualifying for the major across the other venues, including Rickie Fowler and Max Homa, in ‘golf’s longest day’, where US Open hopefuls play 36 holes at 10 location across the USA and Canada.<\/p>\n

47 spots were available and it was England Golf Men’s Squad member Weaver who picked up one of the five up for grabs in Georgia, being one of three amateur qualifiers, along with American Mason Howell (-18), who just last week competed at England Golf’s Brabazon Trophy, where he made a hole-in-one<\/a> and shot one of the rounds of the tournament<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Weaver said: “It\u2019s been a really positive season for me so far with some good results, but this is definitely up there with my biggest achievement. Playing in a major championship is a dream of mine and still hasn\u2019t quite set in that I will be teeing it up at Oakmont this year.<\/p>\n

“My preparation is going to be similar to any other tournament. I have the Palmer Cup this week and then will be heading straight to Oakmont to spend a few days getting ready for the Thursday.<\/p>\n

“I am extremely lucky to have the support network that I do, and none of this would be possible without them. I know that both my parents and brother (Max) are planning to make the trip over. They are just as excited as I am and I plan to have Max on the bag for the week.”<\/p>\n

CONTINUED FORM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Suffolk’s Weaver has had a fine year, after winning the Cabo Collegiate (USA) which earned him an exemption into the World Wide Technology Championship PGA Tour event later this year, while he also finished in 2nd place at the ACC Men’s Golf Championship, and enjoyed top-10 finishes at the Watersound Invitational and NCAA Tallahassee Regional.<\/p>\n

In 2024, he won all three of his match play games in the NCAA Finals for Florida State University and finished 2nd in the Seminole Intercollegiate. He represented England Golf at the 2024 European Team Championship, while he was a winner of the 2023 Carris Trophy and runner-up at the 2023 English Men\u2019s Amateur Championship.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the US Open Qualifiers, professional English golfer Matt Wallace qualified through the seven spots available at Lambton, but Harry Hall (at Lambton) and amateur Harrison Arnold (at Woodmont) sadly missed out.

\nAnother amateur in Luke Poulter (Emerald) is currently in the top-four set to qualify from Emerald Dunes (Florida), but will have to wait for his chance, after weather forced them off the course on Monday. After a first round of -3, Poulter shot eagle, birdie, birdie (-5 through three holes) to start his second round before the klaxons went off!
