Paediatric Nurse Turns Personal Loss into Purpose<\/h3>\n
Amber\u2019s motivation for setting up the group is deeply personal. She has experienced unimaginable loss, having lost both her son and her husband to the rare genetic disorder Alagille Syndrome.<\/p>\n
Drawing on more than 20 years of experience working in paediatric nursing across East Kent, Amber wanted to create a safe, understanding space for parents who are living with child loss.<\/p>\n
Together in Grief: A Safe Space for Bereaved Parents<\/h3>\n
The Whitstable-based group meets at Revival Food & Mood every third Wednesday of the month, from 7pm to 8pm, offering parents a place to talk, listen and connect with others who truly understand their experience. The next meeting will take place on 18 February.<\/p>\n
The group was developed while Amber was studying for a Counselling, Coaching and Mentoring degree at Canterbury Christ Church University.<\/p>\n Her training was supported by two \u00a35,000 grants from The Evie Dove Foundation, with her second-year funding made possible thanks to a donation from The Royal St George\u2019s Golf Club.<\/p>\n \u201cAmber\u2019s story moved all of us,\u201d said Rob Moulsdale, Trustee at The Royal St George\u2019s Golf Club. \u201cHer commitment to supporting families is extraordinary, and we are proud to help make her training possible via The Evie Dove Foundation.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a privilege to support both Amber and the Foundation in making a tangible difference to the lives of sick children and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n Amber said the support she received was vital in turning her idea into reality.<\/p>\n \u201cLaunching this group is something I feel called to do,\u201d she said. \u201cNurses rarely receive funding beyond a first degree, so additional qualifications can be difficult to access.<\/p>\n The Evie Dove Foundation\u2019s support has made this group possible, and I\u2019m grateful to offer something that can help families in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n The Evie Dove Foundation was set up in memory of Evie Dove, who died from incurable brain cancer aged 13 in 2022.<\/p>\n The charity supports sick children and their families by funding specialist training for children\u2019s healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n To date, the Foundation has raised more than \u00a3425,000 and supported the training of over 200 professionals across the UK.<\/p>\n Howard Dove, Trustee at The Evie Dove Foundation, praised Amber\u2019s work and the impact of community support.<\/p>\n \u201cAmber\u2019s compassion and expertise have a profound impact on children and their families,\u201d he said. \u201cBy funding specialist training for professionals like Amber, we can help keep compassion at the heart of paediatric care.\u201d<\/p>\n For Royal St George\u2019s, the project reflects the club\u2019s long-standing tradition of giving back beyond the fairways, supporting local people, meaningful causes, and initiatives that strengthen the wider Kent community.<\/p>\n![\"Katie](\"https:\/\/golfnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Copy-of-Katie-and-Howard-and-family-e1767703914115.jpg\")
